pay equity within stations
One of the fundamental goals of my campaign is Pay Equity within Stations, an initiative focused on ensuring that CTAs and Station Agents (Non-AFC) are compensated equitably, with their pay aligned to reflect the value of their roles within Stations. This initiative addresses disparities within our workforce and ensures that every employee, regardless of specific title or task, is fairly compensated for the important work they do.
Why Pay Equity Matters
Equal Pay for Equal Work: CTAs and Station Agents (Non-AFC) play vital roles in keeping our stations safe, clean & efficient. However, there are significant pay disparities between these roles and other similar positions within Stations. This initiative would ensure that CTAs and Non-AFC Station Agents receive equitable compensation, reflecting their critical responsibilities and contributions to the system.
Closing Wage Gaps Across Roles: Across many industries, there are wage gaps that unfairly devalue the work of certain employees. In our case, CTAs and Non-AFC Station Agents are often paid less than other employees performing similar tasks within Stations. This initiative seeks to close that gap and ensure that pay scales across Stations are consistent and fair, giving all employees the financial recognition they deserve for their work.
The Economic Impact
Aligning Pay with Industry Standards: By ensuring that CTAs and Non-AFC Station Agents receive equitable pay, we’re aligning with broader industry standards that promote fairness and equity in compensation. This initiative is about making sure that every Stations employee is fairly compensated for their skills and duties, and not left behind due to outdated or inequitable pay scales.
Enhancing Employee Morale: Pay inequity leads to frustration & dissatisfaction. By addressing these disparities and ensuring that all roles within Stations are compensated equitably, we can boost employee morale and job satisfaction, which leads to a more motivated workforce. Fair pay not only benefits individual employees but also strengthens the union and the overall Stations department.
Supporting Financial Stability: Many CTAs and Non-AFC Station Agents rely on their jobs to support themselves and their families. By ensuring pay equity, this initiative will provide greater financial security to those employees, ensuring they are not struggling to make ends meet due to unfair compensation practices. This benefits the entire workforce and improves quality of life for everyone in these roles.
Why it Matters Now
Creating a Fairer Workplace: Stations employees work hard to keep the city’s transit system running, and all roles are essential to that mission. Fair and equitable pay across all positions ensures that no one is undervalued or underpaid. This initiative is about acknowledging that every role is vital, and every worker deserves compensation that reflects their contribution to the system’s success.
Addressing Longstanding Disparities: For too long, there has been an imbalance in how different roles within Stations are compensated. This initiative will address longstanding pay disparities, particularly for CTAs, and bring their pay in line with other similar roles. It’s about correcting the course and ensuring that everyone’s work is valued equally.
A Stronger, Unified Workforce: Pay equity builds a stronger, more unified workforce where every employee feels valued and respected. When employees know they are being compensated fairly for their work, they are more likely to stay engaged, productive & committed to their jobs. This initiative would help foster a more cohesive and motivated Stations team, improving not only individual satisfaction but also overall performance.
A Commitment to Fairness
Pay Equity within Stations is about ensuring that every employee—whether they’re a CTA, Non-AFC Station Agent, or in any other role—receives fair and equitable compensation for the important work they do. By addressing pay disparities and aligning wages across similar roles, we are taking a crucial step toward a more just and equitable workplace.
This initiative reflects our commitment to fairness, respect, and financial equality for all Stations employees. Together, we can close the wage gap and ensure that every worker’s contributions are recognized with equitable pay. Let’s stand together to create a fairer, stronger future for all employees within Stations.
